Cafeteria Information for 2008-2009

Breakfast is served from 8:15-8:50 a.m. Cost: $1.25 or $.30 for students on reduced breakfast/ lunch.

Lunch prices are: $2.25 for students, $.40 students on reduced lunch, $3.00 for adults.

Paying for Meals - Students can pay cash or can pay through an established account. Students may put money on their account so that they do not have to have cash every day OR they can set up an account through MyLunchMoney.com or by calling 1-800-479-3531 to set up an account. To enroll in MyLunchMoney.com, click on the link above and go to enroll now. You will need the student's school, grade, date of birth and 7 digit student ID number. The cafeteria does not accept checks, credit cards or debit cards.

If a student is transferring from another AISD school, any money on their account at that school will transfer to Akins. The transfer process takes about 48 hours after enrolling at Akins. Money left on a student's account at their previous AISD middle school will also transfer to Akins.

Students who apply for free or reduced cost lunch/breakfast, must pay the full price of meals until their application is approved. If a student is transferring from another AISD school, it takes about 48 hours for the information to be transferred to Akins. Attendance Information/Parent Access

A program called "Parent Access" is now available for all parents. It allows parents to access their student’s report cards, progress reports, and attendance online. For security reasons, and for you to gain access, a photocopy of your driver's license is required. Please stop by the office for us to make a copy of your license. You must re-enroll in this program each year. If you have any questions, please email Thelma Reyes or call 841-9918.
To register, from your computer:
1. Open your Internet browser.
2. Type in the web address (or click on the address): http://access.austinisd.org/
3. Press Enter.
4. Click on the box labeled “Parents”.
5. Click on the box labeled “Register”.
6. Follow the instructions in the application to complete and submit your registration. Note: From the log in page, you may also click on the documentation link for step-by-step instructions to Parent Participate.
7. Upon registration you will be sent an email confirming your registration. If you have already submitted a copy of your driver's license, your registration will be approved within a day or two. If you have not already submitted a copy of your driver's license, your registration will not be approved until it is received and entered by Akins. Once your registration is approved, you will be able to access your student's report cards, progress reports and attendance online.
8. After your registration is approved, go back to http://access.austinisd.org/ . Click on parents and sign in. To view your child's information, click on the word "GO" next to your child's name. You will get a list of options on the left of things to look at. If you do not click on "GO", no information will show.

New Students

In order to register a student at Akins/AISD, the following documents must be brought to the office at the time of registration:
** Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.** If you are acting guardian for a student, please provide guadianship card at time of registration.
**A birth certificate issue by the state (not the one from the hospital with the footprints)
**School Records: Report card from last year or a withdrawal from from your previous school if you are registering after the school year has started or unofficial transcript.
**Complete Immunization records - If a student is entering from another Austin school, these records are available on the computer. (To see a list of the required immunizations, click (link) here.
**Social Security card for the student
**Proof of Address in the Akins attendance zone, such as a utility bill with your name on it, a lease or contract agreement (be sure to bring the entire thing) with your name on it.
**Photo identification of the parent/guardian with date of birth, such as a driver's license, state-issued identification card, or other similar document.

If you child needs to take medicine of any type at school, an (link) Authorization of Medication to be Taken at School Form must be completed and returned to the nurse's office. The form may be taken to the nurse's office with the medicine or if the student has the medicine and you forgot to complete the form, please print out the form and fax it or take it to school. The fax number is 841-9903.

To get to the theatre - turn into the 2nd entrance off of South 1st and turn left. The theatre is the first building on right. Over the entrance door it says Fine Arts.

To get to the gym - turn into the 3rd, northern most entrance (this is the first entrance if you are coming south on 1st Street from Slaughter Lane). The gym is the building on the right. It says Gymnasium over the door.

Directions to Akins High School

Akins High School is located in south Austin, near the intersection of South First Street and FM 1626, about ten miles south of downtown Austin.

Visitor parking and the main office are located at the first driveway, before the marquee. Parking for fine arts, theatre, and gym is located at the third driveway.

From the North:
  • Follow IH-35 south to exit 225 (FM 1626 / Onion Creek Parkway)
  • Travel half a mile south on the access road, then turn right (west) onto FM 1626.
  • Travel half a mile west on FM 1626, then turn right (north) onto South First Street.
  • You will see the school on the right


  • From the South:
  • Follow IH-35 North to exit 226 (FM 1626 / Slaughter Creek Overpass)
  • Travel a quarter of a mile north and cross over IH-35 to the southbound frontage road.
  • Travel half a mile south on the access road, then turn right (west) onto FM 1626.
  • Travel half a mile west on FM 1626, then turn right (north) onto South First Street.
  • You will see the school on the right

  • Use major routes to reach IH-35, and travel south
