Language Arts at Bedichek Middle School

The TEKS

(Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills)

TEKS is the driving force behind the AISD Language Arts Curriculum. This clear guideline, coupled with teaching strategies which have been proven successful by the latest research, makes us confident in our ability to help all students reach their potential as lifelong learners.

The specific skills involved in the Language Arts learning process are spiraling in nature. Although the same skills are addressed at each of the grade levels, the expectations for mastery become increasingly more rigorous.

Recognizing and attempting to meet the appropriate level of academic rigor for each student is a focus of the ongoing learning process. Teachers establish clear expectations by ensuring complete understanding of the grading rubrics, then guide students to reach individual goals based on the rubric. By collaborating with students regarding product adjustments that better comply with the standard and maintaining an "accountable talk" dialogue with the students, teachers provide a meaningful and individual learning experience for all.
