Cafeteria/Snack Bar:
The cafeteria serves both breakfast and lunch. Breakfast
is served between 7:45 and 8:10 a.m. Students are
not allowed leave campus for lunch.
National School Lunch Program: AISD

financial need. Information

on the National School Lunch Program.
Vending Machines: Vending machines
may be used during the lunch periods and after school,
and will be shut down during passing periods. No food
or drink is allowed in the halls or class unless permitted
by the teacher. Use vending machines at your own risk.
Refunds are not available.
Cafeteria Behavior:
1) Walk at all times.
2) Take pride in Bedichek's campus by putting trash
in trashcans and aluminum cans in containers for recycling.
3) Demonstrate courtesy and thoughtfulness.
4) Follow all instructions given by lunch supervisors
(administrators, counselors, parent volunteers, custodians,
teachers, monitors and cafeteria personnel).
When the bell rings to end the lunch period, go to your
next class with your necessary materials. Students are
not allowed to go to the academic wings during their
lunch period unless they have a pass from a teacher.
Common Student Questions:
1. Where do I eat?
You eat your meals in the cafeteria or at the picnic area
by the gym. You must sit down at a table while eating
and drinking. Students are not allowed in the courtyard
during lunch periods.
2. What does the cafeteria serve for breakfast/lunch?
The breakfast line offers such items as cereal, pancakes,
toast, sausage biscuits, etc. A hot lunch line serves
a balanced hot meal with a selection of vegetable and
deserts. The snack line has items such a pizza, frito
pie, chips, hamburger and drinks.
3. What happens next? When the bell rings
to end the lunch period, the student has 5 minutes to
get to the next class and should proceed quietly.
4. What about games and recreation? You
may play games available in the cafeteria such as pool,
ping pong, etc. You may also play basketball in the outdoor
basketball courts.
5. How do I get to go to the library during lunch?
You must obtain a pass from the
librarian before you go to lunch.
Policies:
Visitors
Parents are welcome and encouraged to visit school.
Please sign in at the main office, state the reason
for your visit, and pick up a visitor's badge. We are
always pleased to have parents join students at lunch.
Closed Campus Policy
Upon arrival at school, no student is
to leave the school campus until he/she leaves for home
at the end of the day or with permission from a parent
and a permit to leave from the main office. Any student
leaving without permission will be considered truant
and subject to disciplinary
action.
Attendance
- If a student will be absent, please call 414-3265
to report the absence.
To receive credit in a class, middle school
students may miss no more than eighteen (18) periods
per school year (9 periods per semester). A student
who misses more days than allowed by TEA policy shall
not be given credit for the class unless the attendance
committee finds that the absence(s) are the result of
extenuating circumstances.
When returning to school after an absence, a student
must bring a note signed by the parent/guardian that
describes the reason for the absence. Notes, signed
by the student, even with the parent's permission, will
be considered a forgery, and disciplinary action will
be taken. It is current practice that a parent/guardian
call 414-5191 to notify the school of a student's absence
on the day of the absence. AISD works with the Travis
County Sheriff Department to verify any student's absence
that is not accounted for by a parent/guardian, by making
home visitations daily.
The District accepts the following as extenuating circumstances
for the purpose of granting credit for a class:
1. Personal illness, death in the family, quarantine.
2. Days of suspension
3. Participation in court proceeding or child abuse/neglect
investigation (with official legal documentation).
4. A migrant student's late enrollment or early withdrawal.
5. Completion of a competency-based program for at-risk
students.
6. Late enrollment or early withdrawal of a student
under Texas Youth Commission.
7. Specific religious observance.
8. Participation in a substance abuse rehabilitation
program.
Notification of absences is according
to the following procedures:
1. A parent/guardian must call the school before 10
a.m. notifying the attendance clerk that the student
is absent. The phone number of the attendance clerk
414-5191.
2. Absences are listed on the student's
progress reports which come out 3 weeks after the beginning
of each new six weeks.
Withdrawl Procedure - (Please request
withdrawals between 8-10 a.m.)
Parents or guardians must notify the school office of
their intent to withdraw their student(s) at least one
day prior to the last day the student will be attending
Bedichek. When a student is checking out of Bedichek
to attend another school, a withdrawal form must be
completed. The student is required to check out with
each individual teacher as well as the library, counselor
and principal. All financial obligations to the school
including payment for lost/stolen textbooks must be
taken care of at the time of withdrawal. There is also
an additional form which requires
a parent/guardian signature.
Lost & Found
Students who find lost items are asked
to take them to the office. Students who lose articles
should report them as soon as they are missed. Students
are encouraged to label all belongings so they can be
identified and returned to the owner.
After School Events
Students should make arrangements to be
picked up ON TIME for all after school activities. Please
pick your student up within 15 minutes of a given activity
ending time. We are concerned about your child's safety.
Our teachers sponsor many of these after school activities
and it creates a hardship on the teacher who must wait
with your students when you are late.
Those students who do not comply will face parent contact,
possible disciplinary action, and/or suspension from
future school activities.
Do Not Bring to School
Problems arise when students bring inappropriate
items to school that interfere with instruction. These
items include, but are not limited to: trading cards
of any kind, CD/tape players, radios, laser pointers,
inappropriate jewelry (see DRESS code), roller blades

spray paint, water balloons, bandannas, liquid paper,
numchucks, brass knuckles, hair spray and all aerosol
cans, paint & calligraphy pens, glitter, fountain
pens, hats, sunglasses, walkie-talkies, and wallet chains.
DO NOT BRING THESE TO SCHOOL! No markers
are allowed on campus. If markers are found in a student's
possession, there will be a $5 per marker fine charged
for which the student is responsible. Pagers/Cellphones
are illegal items on campus that will be confiscated
and turned over to campus police. The above items will
not be tolerated and appropriate action will be taken
against the student who possesses these items. The action
may include suspension or expulsion. Parents will need
to pick up all confiscated items. Any student tagging
school property or found guilty of defacing school property
in any way will be assessed a minimum $25 fine. Tagging
is also not allowed on backpacks, books, schoolwork,

for personal items: Students should bring only the amount
of money needed for lunch or other school expenses to
be used at school. Students are discouraged from bringing
expensive personal items, i.e.bracelets, purses, cameras,
electronics, expensive watches, etc.

Student purses and backpacks brought to school are subject
to reasonable search by a school official (teacher,
principal, assistant principal) when he or she has established
reasonable cause to believe the student is violating
or has violated a student code of conduct rule, school
rule or law. New Jersey v. T.L.O 469 U .S . 325 (1985);

[14th Dist.] 1989).
