Policies:

Visitors

Parents are welcome and encouraged to visit school. Please sign in at the main office, state the reason for your visit, and pick up a visitor's badge. We are always pleased to have parents join students at lunch.

Closed Campus Policy

Upon arrival at school, no student is to leave the school campus until he/she leaves for home at the end of the day or with permission from a parent and a permit to leave from the main office. Any student leaving without permission will be considered truant and subject to disciplinary
action.

Attendance - If a student will be absent, please call 414-3265 to report the absence.

To receive credit in a class, middle school students may miss no more than eighteen (18) periods per school year (9 periods per semester). A student who misses more days than allowed by TEA policy shall not be given credit for the class unless the attendance committee finds that the absence(s) are the result of extenuating circumstances.
When returning to school after an absence, a student must bring a note signed by the parent/guardian that describes the reason for the absence. Notes, signed by the student, even with the parent's permission, will be considered a forgery, and disciplinary action will be taken. It is current practice that a parent/guardian call 414-5191 to notify the school of a student's absence on the day of the absence. AISD works with the Travis County Sheriff Department to verify any student's absence that is not accounted for by a parent/guardian, by making home visitations daily.
The District accepts the following as extenuating circumstances for the purpose of granting credit for a class:

1. Personal illness, death in the family, quarantine.
2. Days of suspension
3. Participation in court proceeding or child abuse/neglect investigation (with official legal documentation).
4. A migrant student's late enrollment or early withdrawal.
5. Completion of a competency-based program for at-risk students.
6. Late enrollment or early withdrawal of a student under Texas Youth Commission.
7. Specific religious observance.
8. Participation in a substance abuse rehabilitation program.

Notification of absences is according to the following procedures:

1. A parent/guardian must call the school before 10 a.m. notifying the attendance clerk that the student is absent. The phone number of the attendance clerk 414-5191.

2. Absences are listed on the student's progress reports which come out 3 weeks after the beginning of each new six weeks.

Withdrawl Procedure - (Please request withdrawals between 8-10 a.m.)
Parents or guardians must notify the school office of their intent to withdraw their student(s) at least one day prior to the last day the student will be attending Bedichek. When a student is checking out of Bedichek to attend another school, a withdrawal form must be completed. The student is required to check out with each individual teacher as well as the library, counselor and principal. All financial obligations to the school including payment for lost/stolen textbooks must be taken care of at the time of withdrawal. There is also an additional form which requires
a parent/guardian signature.

Lost & Found

Students who find lost items are asked to take them to the office. Students who lose articles should report them as soon as they are missed. Students are encouraged to label all belongings so they can be identified and returned to the owner.

After School Events

Students should make arrangements to be picked up ON TIME for all after school activities. Please pick your student up within 15 minutes of a given activity ending time. We are concerned about your child's safety. Our teachers sponsor many of these after school activities and it creates a hardship on the teacher who must wait with your students when you are late.
Those students who do not comply will face parent contact, possible disciplinary action, and/or suspension from future school activities.

Immunizations
All students must be immunized against certain diseases or must present a certificate signed by a doctor stating that for medical reasons, the student should not be immunized. The immunizations required are: diphtheria/tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella and TAB; the school nurse can provide information on the required doses of these vaccines. Proof of immunization may be personal records by a licensed physician or public health clinic with a signature or rubber stamp validation. Proof of all immunizations must be brought to the school! If a student's religious beliefs conflict with the immunization requirement, the student must present a statement signed by parent which states that the immunization conflicts with the beliefs and practices of a recognized church or religious denomination of which the student is a member. This statement must be renewed yearly.

Medications
If it is necessary for a student to take any form of medication at school, a medication form must be completed by the parent/guardian and kept on file in the health clinic. All medication must be kept in the health clinic in the original prescription bottle and labeled with the student's name and directions for dispensing. Students are not allowed to carry medication with them.

Emergency Contact Numbers
Students are requested to submit to the office any change of address or telephone numbers (both home and parent/guardian work numbers). All parents MUST list on their student's emergency care card a telephone number where they may be reached during the day.

School Insurance
School insurance is available to all students. A packet will be available for each student on the first day of classes. Purchase of this program is optional. Only students playing in the sports program must provide signed evidence that they are covered by adequate insurance should they choose not to purchase this package.

Emergency Drills
Students, teachers, and staff shall participate in frequent drills of emergency procedures. When the alarm is sounded, students must follow the directions of the teacher or other school staff members quickly, quietly and in an orderly manner.
Emergency bells:
3 bells - fire drill - leave the building
1 bell - stand at attention
2 bells - return quietly to room

***FINAL NOTE TO STUDENTS***
All special circumstances cannot be written into these general guidelines. Always ask a teacher or principal if you are unsure of a policy.. Remember...common sense is always a good personal policy.
