The ACE Chess Club holds unrated events for scholastic and weak adults (i.e. mainly parents) for a nominal entry fee of $1. The events take place at a new meeting place: Pflugerville Community Library, 102 Tenth Street in Pflugerville every Sunday 4-6 PM except holidays. Half of the entry fees are returned as prizes. This is a great place to come and learn how to play with tournament rules and practice for scholastic events. Adult events follow later in the evening. For additional information call Gary Gaiffe at 328-3638 or email ggaiffe@att.net.
Dobie Mall Events take place at Dobie Mall at 21st and Guadalupe in the Food Court on the 2nd floor Mondays at 7 PM. These events are quite informal and open to all players, children and adults. The tournaments are five rounds, 10-minute games with an entry fee of $1.00 cents if registered by 6:45 PM. These unrated events are attended by a wide cross section of players. Beginning players and experts alike come to play in these fast-paced, action-packed events that end around 9 PM. The entry fee is returned as prizes to the winners in three groups: adult, scholastic, and women. For additional information call Gary Gaiffe at 328-3638 or email ggaiffe@att.net.
Austin Jewish Community Center Classes take place at the Dell Center Campus at Far West and Hart Lane on Thursdays from 3:45-5 PM. These are the only chess classes open to the public in the Austin Area. Many students would like to go to chess classes but do not have a club in their school. The AJCC offers the perfect solution for these students. The classes are for beginner to intermediate level players and are taught by an expert level player. Due to the success of this program, the AJCC is evaluating expanding by adding an adult class and doing outreach services. For additional information, contact Shelly Hollander at 735-8036.

Casis Chess Club was founded by Margaret Tankard in 1996.
"I used to play chess a lot with my dad and and my sisters and I thought it would be fun to start something for people my age to get involved. When I was in third grade, I talked to my mom about possibly doing something at school. She talked to the principal to work out the mechanics. At the first meeting we had a surprising turnout. We had lists of pairings to play at chess club. I'm amazed to hear about the chess club and how it has evolved and developed since I started it at Casis and that people are so interested in continuing it."--Casis Chess Club Founder Margaret Tankard 10th grade, spring 2004
