About Our School
Our school opened its doors in 1962 and was named after Mary Ellen Cunningham, a kind and caring teacher in Central Texas during the late 1800s, retiring from Austin ISD in 1942. Cunningham has a rich history of academic success and community involvement. Our building has grown with additions and updates over the decades as the neighborhood and student needs increased. We remodeled the school during the 2011-12 school year. We celebrated our 50th anniversary in our beautiful newly updated building in 2012-13! Our school became the first Microsociety school in Austin, TX in 2013-14. Long live Cunningham!
Cunningham is dedicated to educating and guiding a community of successful lifelong learners with a global perspective on academic excellence, a healthy mind and body, and a creative passion as information leaders.
