Statement
To promote the development of socially responsible, critical thinkers Situated on historic Congress Avenue, Fulmore Middle School has well over a century of history delivering quality education to the children of Austin. In 1886, Fulmore was a one-room, white frame school house with a bell tower and a few eager students. Now, as we enter the 21 st Century, Fulmore has almost 800 students and a national reputation for excellence. Among the school's alumni is John Henry Faulk, the defender of the First Amendment, for whom the downtown public library is named. Former governor Ann Richards taught at Fulmore, as did the 1997-1998 Texas Teacher of the year, Joe Farley. Fulmore is known for its many excellent programs as well as the rigor of its academic classes. Among the many honors Fulmore has received are the following: For the last two years, the student newspaper, The
Falcon Cry, has received the prestigious Silver Star in state
interscholastic competition. Fulmore is the only middle school in the
state to be honored with a gold star. The honor band and honor
orchestra yearly receive sweepstakes awards and place numerous students
in the region band and orchestra. In addition, both receive top honors
in the solo and ensemble contests. The vision for Fulmore Middle School and the Humanities and Law Magnet for International Studies is to become a school with a safe nurturing environment that is a learning center for the entire community. We strive for exemplary achievement and for the technological competence of students and staff who are actively engaged in a rigorous and challenging choice-based curriculum. We create responsible, global citizens empowered with the life skills to make successful choices while embracing our rich cultural heritage, our rich diversity and our strong commonalities. Significant points: We believe that education empowers, opens doors to opportunities beyond the walls of Fulmore Middle School and the Humanities and Law Magnet for International Studies, and enables students to become citizens of the world. Accordingly, we believe: Children have the right and
responsibility to learn according to their potential. Moreover, the
public education system has the responsibility of creating schools that
encourage and guide students to meet their academic potential.
As children evolve academically,
emotionally and socially, all teachers must lead, coach, mentor and
provide opportunities for further success.
Staff, parents and the community
must jointly provide a safe nurturing and consistent environment to
ensure learning for all students.
