Who Are We?

Communities in schools is an outside agency working in the Austin School District to provide a broad range of support services at no charge to students. CIS is staffed by social workers, interns, and AmeriCorps volunteers.

Where Are We?

Our office is located in room 310 of the 300 wing at Garza.

When Is Our Office Open?

Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Individual and group counseling/support
  • Crisis intervention
  • Tutoring and mentoring
  • Birth control resources
  • Health referrals
  • Help with Medicaid and food stamps
  • Assistance with housing issues
  • Legal assistance
  • Employment skills training
  • Custody advice and referrals
  • Community service options (VIP)
  • Referrals to outside agencies
  • Liaison with teachers and administrators on various issues
