 Food Handler Training

Posted: August 30, 8:25 am

If any parent organization/booster club is planning on serving food, this
information is very important to you and your group.  To serve food you
must have a  temporary food event permit.  In order to obtain a temporary
food event permit, two responsible parties must receive Food Handler
training.  While they can receive training elsewhere, AISD strongly
encourage school organization sponsors and volunteers to attend the
training provided free of charge by the Austin/Travis County Health &
Human Services Department on Tuesday, September 28, at 6:30 PM. in the
Baker Center Cafeteria.  Spanish translation services will be provided.

Training is good for one year, so if someone received training last
January, their training is good through that time in 2011.  If they
receive the training last fall, they will need to attend again.  If you
have any questions feel free to contact Chris Carrillo or Charlie
Washington in Food Services at 414-0251.

Must Read

Posted: August 26, 3:14 pm

Parents and Students,
Please review the information found in the school agenda and the Student
Code of Conduct with your student.  Both offer much needed information to
help you and your student succeed at Gorzycki.  remember also that
Gorzycki follows the Austin ISD dress code policy,

http://www.austinisd.org/academics/parentsinfo/dress_code/index.phtml

plus the additional guidelines found on page 9 in the student agenda.
Information can be found about forgotten items from home (page 11),
make-up work (page 3), locks for lockers (page 10) and permit to leave
school (page 2).  The Student Code of Conduct has updated information and
should be reviewed each year.  In the back of the supplement it has a sign
off sheet.  This needs to be signed by the parent and student  and return
back to school.

Back To School Night

Posted: August 26, 11:51 am

It has been a great start to our second year! Please come help us
celebrate by attending our “Back To School Night” on Tuesday, August 31st.
Parents will meet in the Commons area 15 minutes prior to the beginning of
the class rotation. The first 15 minutes will give you an opportunity to
join our PTA and booster organizations as well as purchase the new
Gorzycki PRIDE T-shirts. Also if you do not have a copy of your child’s
schedule you may pick up a copy from the school counselors who will be
seated in the Commons during this time. The 6th grade “Back To School
Night” will be from 5:30- 7:05 and the seventh and eighth grade will be
from 7:30- 9:05. Parking will be challenging so we encourage you to walk
or carpool to Gorzycki.  Sixth grade parents will need to leave in a
timely fashion in order to provide parking spaces for the incoming seventh
and eighth grade parents. Also this function is intended to be for parents
only. Student leaders will be in the hallways to help direct parents.
After the initial gathering in the Commons area a bell will ring and we
will make an announcement over the PA system that parents should move to
their child’s first period class. You will have five minutes for passing
periods and five minutes in each classroom to meet and greet the teacher.
Please be respectful of everyone’s time and refrain from “conferencing”
with the teachers about your child. Due to time restraints we will NOT be
going to Tiger Den between fifth and sixth period.  We are off to a smooth
start and we have much to show and tell you! Please come!

Gorzycki MS is now a WeatherBug school

Posted: August 21, 7:20 am

Gorzycki Middle School is now a WeatherBug school! The WeatherBug Schools Network is the largest weather network in the world. More than 8,000 schools across the U. S. operate WeatherBug Tracking Stations to integrate live, local weather data and technology into classroom learning. Through the WeatherBug Program, students will have the opportunity to analyze weather phenomenon and gain insight into real-world Earth and environmental issues. Through observation and experimentation, they will collect data, analyze results, draw conclusions, and communicate their findings thereby developing and practicing their scientific proficiency.

To see more, go to http://www.austinschools.org/campus/gorzycki/weatherbug.html.

We would like to thank Margit Szabo-Higgins for her hard work in helping to make this all happen. Our school wouldn't be what it is today without the ongoing efforts of our fantastic parents and other volunteers. Thanks to you all!

Your participation is strongly encouraged and appreciated by the coaching

benefit from all of the support.  Help us make this an amazing year for
our children!
