Delivery Notice

Dear Gorzycki Community,

We want to inform you about the need to change our delivery policy in the front office and to ask for your support and assistance. For the past two years the front office staff and parent volunteers accepted and made deliveries from parents to students all during the school day. These deliveries consisted of forgotten homework, school supplies, band instruments, PE clothes, forgotten money, lunch money, and messages from a parent to their child.

Initially when we opened Gorzycki this system was not a problem because there were only a few deliveries each day; however, last year the volume increased exponentially. The front office staff and volunteers made over 4000 deliveries of just forgotten items, such as homework, clothing and lunches alone. In addition, there were permit to leave delivers that are not included in the log below.

Here is the data:
Items dropped off: 3223 Total
August 116, September 375, October 414, November 265, December 276,
January 259, February 257, March 331, April 277, May 624, June 624.
Phone messages from a parent: 781
Total: 4004

Please understand that each time a delivery is made a class is interrupted and instructional time is lost. Each time your child comes down to pick up an item, they lose instructional time. In short, the current volume and method of deliveries is negatively impacting our students’ education and instruction. We know there is a need for deliveries but we believe we can still provide quality service and minimize class interruptions and loss of instructional time. Therefore, we are revising our delivery policy.

Beginning this year our delivery policy will be:

Lunch money – parents sign in and take the money to the cafeteria to deposit in the student account. If the student isn’t aware that it is being deposited the parent can complete a parent note and staff can have it delivered to the student.

Lunches – make sure the lunch has a student’s name and grade on it and place it on the designated lunch cart for the appropriate lunch period. The cart will be taken to the cafeteria each lunch period and distributed to the student by staff.

Homework– staff will place it in the teacher’s mailbox. Staff will indicate on our green homework slip, the teacher’s name and what time the item was brought in.

P.E. clothes/Band Instruments – will be taken directly to the gym or band hall. Parents will need to make sure the item has their student’s name on it.

All items should be picked up by students during lunch or after school. If a student comes between classes we will not give them a tardy slip.

Thank you for our support and assistance.

Sincerely,

Vickie Bauerle and the Gorzycki Staff
