| Here's a hodge-podge of information of interest to Kiker parents, that doesn't fit into any other category on the left. Please send email to Elizabeth Leight if there's something you'd like to see added or changed.
Did you forget to send an absent/sick note when a child is out of school (but doesn't have a doctor's note)? If so, you may also email Amy McGovern with Absence in the subject line. Written notes with a parent's signature are preferred, but email will be accepted.
If you need to renew your magazine subscriptions prior to the October Kiker fundraiser, please click here or use the link on the left. Our campus uses the proceeds from this fundraiser for Faculty Development and other programs which enhance the education of our students.

Research information: Please see our Library page for research resources here. In particular, while everyone is familiar with Google, sometimes the results yield sites that are not appropriate for kids. The Austin Independent School District subscribes to an online research portal –Nettrekker: www.nettrekker.com– which functions like Google, but with age-appropriate sites and information, along with grade-level ratings. Nettrekker provides a safe and effective place for students elementary through high school to do internet research. Added features include image searches, timelines and links to online references for dictionaries and more.
Our PIE, Farmer's Insurance, provides access to a website with lots of homework, science fair, and other resources. Login to EdHelpForParents.com with code Austin-Bowie.
You can set up a lunch money account for your child at http://www.mylunchmoney.com. You will use a student id number that you can get from the Kiker office. You can set the account up to draft from your credit card when the account gets too low.
Summer 2007, Marian Wallace, Kiker Parent, was chosen to
participate in a pilot leadership
program with the school district called
AISD UpClose.
Designed by Superintendent Dr. Pat Forgione,
AISD UpClose will literally
give community representatives a close up look at how
AISD is run and how parents and community members can more actively
participate in AISD.
Thirty were chosen to represent communities from all across
Austin.
Over the next year, they will meet
once a month to examine issues such as
school budget, curriculum, and special
resources. Their task will then be to take
what they've learn back to our
communities to share with
parents and help identify
leaders who can take a more
active role within AISD.
Please feel free to contact
Marian if you have any questions or specific issues you would like more information on. Marion can be reached at
mkwallace-AT-earthlink.net.
