gold arrowFine Arts Support was Fablous!

PTA
PTA
What a great group of parents and students at Lamar. The AISD Board room was packed last week in support of Lamar"s proposal to become a Fine Arts magnet! Students, parents, faculty and community were all present. Many spoke passionately about making Lamar a fine arts academy, including former and current students, parents and the Allandale Neighborhood Association President. The Board listened attentively and we hope they will take up the proposal for discussion in the near future.

arrowLEAD PARENT PROGRAM

The purpose of this program is to provide one parent for each teacher, very similar to a Home Room Parent.
The idea is to help the teacher with specific classroom needs, materials, supplies; help keep other parents
informed about what is happening in class, home work, special projects, assignments via email, or by posting
information for the teachers on the Lamar Website or the individual sites development by some of the teachers;
recruiting parents with experience, expertise or talent to supplement the coursework; help the teachers organize
special presentations, class celebrations, field trips, etc.

Our hope is to give the teachers more quality time with our children, cut down on the teachers need to spend
conference times and weekends on "leg work" that parents could help with during the week. The Lead Parent
is the connection for the teacher to many extra "hands" for many different needs.

In addition to providing the teachers with much needed help, we hope to build the interaction between parents
and teachers, ultimately involving more parents with Lamar Middle School, both through the Lead Parent and
the parents recruited by the Lead Parent to help from time to time.

Teachers and Parents: Please feel free to be as creative as you want to be in developing how you want this
program to help. Please share your ideas with all of us and please share your successes
and "not so successful" strategies.

COMMUNICATION is the root of the program, and there should be communication about once a week between
the Lead Parent and the Teacher. We'll decide together on how to best communicate in person, phone or email.
Our choices might change from week to week on how we communicate. It might even be fun to plan lunch once a
month together to have "face time" and planning time!

Teachers: we are volunteers, ready to help you. Please use us; please view us as a PARTNER! It will take some
initial organization on both of our parts, but please be persistent. You might have to plan a little farther ahead so
that you can coordinate with your Lead Parent to get you "extra hands". It will be worth it. And, when we all settle
into a routine, everyone will benefit!

All of the children at Lamar Middle School will benefit from our efforts, not just the children of the lead parents.
All suggestions to improve the program or implement changes to the program are encouraged!
