DRESS CODE 2009-2010
There is a close relationship between high standards of dignity and pride and proper
grooming, which all contribute to an appropriate learning environment. Neatness, cleanliness,
safety and appropriateness will be guiding factors. Clothes should not be offensive or
distracting. Both students and parents share in the responsibility for proper grooming of the
student; however, the campus administration shall be the final authority on all dress code
decisions. A good rule of thumb is, "when in doubt, don't wear it."

Unacceptable Clothing and Accessories

ballAny item of clothing that displays an
inappropriate or offensive message. This
includes, but is not limited to an item that
depicts the occult, gang membership, hate,
death, violence, sexual connotations,
alcohol, tobacco, or drugs. This also
includes blue, red, or pink shoestrings and
shoestrings that do not match.

ballSlacks/pants/shorts will not be worn
below the waistline. There will be no
sagging or bagging of pants or shorts.

ballNo short shorts, skirts, or dresses. All shorts, skirts or dresses must reach the mid thigh and be long enough to be decent and appropriate for school.

ballNo tank or halter-tops will be allowed,
even if covered by a jacket or other shirt.

ballNo backless or cutout sundresses, low
cut tops.

ballNo sleeveless shirts that exposes the
armpit. All shirts must fit closely around the
armpit.

ballNo clothing will be allowed that reveals
undergarments.

ballNo see through clothing.

ballNo clothing that exposes the torso.

ballNo biking, jogging, boxer, air, wind, or
nylon shorts.

ballNo spandex tights, lacy tights, leggings,
or form fitting pants may be worn, unless
they are covered by a shirt, dress, or skirt
that covers the upper thigh.

ballNo torn, cut, ripped, or frayed jeans or
clothing.

ballNo dusters or trench coats

ballNo tight fitting clothing.

ballNo bedroom attire such as pajamas or
slippers.

ballSwimsuits or other beachwear is not
allowed.

ballStudents are not allowed to wear curlers,
rollers, hair rakes, picks, or combs.

ballMarkings on the skin such as tattoos or
skin graffiti must be covered at all times, or
if possible, washed clean.

ballVisibly body piercing, including the
tongue, excluding the ears.

ballNo caps, hats, or other head coverings
will be worn in the building.

ballNo hair color that is not a natural human
color (yellow, blue, pink, etc.) or that causes
a disruption in the school environment.

ballNo Mohawks, hair carvings, or
unnaturally colored weaves or extensions.

ballJewelry or accessories that are
distracting, noisy, heavy, or excessive shall
not be worn.

ballNo chains on clothing, including wallet
chains.

ballNo dog or spiked collars.

ballNo sunglasses in the building.

ballFor health and safety reasons, shoes
with a 2" or higher heel shall not be worn.

ballNo excessive or heavy make-up that
could be considered distracting.

ballNo black or dark brown lip liner, lipstick,
will be worn.

ballNo grills.

The administration, in cooperation with the
sponsor of an extracurricular activity, may
regulate the dress and grooming of students
who participate in the activity. Students
who violate specified standards might be
subject to disciplinary action.

The administration is authorized to appraise a fashion, fad, or article of clothing to determine its suitability for being worn at school. The campus administration shall be the final authority on all dress code decisions.


Violations of the Dress Code
square 1st offense: Conference with the student, discipline referral and phone call to parents. Student will be required to change into suitable clothing. If the student is unable to change, he/she will be placed in In School Suspension (ISS) for the remainder of the school day.
square 2nd offense: Discipline referral, phone call to parent, administrative detention. Student will be required to change into suitable clothing. If the student is unable to change, he/she will be placed in ISS for the remainder of the school day.
square 3rd offense: Discipline referral, parent conference, and one assigned day in
In School Suspension.
square 4th offense: Discipline referral, one-day suspension from school, must return to
school with a parent.

  CELL PHONES & ELECTRONIC DEVICES
 

All cell phones and electronic devices must
remain turned off and out of sight during the
school day (8:20-3:40) while on school
property. This includes passing periods, free
periods, lunch periods, hallways, cafeterias,
gymnasiums, etc. Students may not possess
telecommunication or electronic devices on
their person during testing periods.

Violations of these rules will result in
confiscation of the device. Additionally,
students may be subject to disciplinary
action for violating these rules, and their
privileges may be suspended or revoked.
Confiscated cell phones will be turned over
to the bookkeeper. A fee of $15.00 and
proof of ownership must be presented to the
bookkeeper by a parent or guardian.

There is a waiting period of two business days to
retrieve cell phones on the first confiscation,
and 10 business days on the second and
third confiscations. The fourth confiscation
will result in a fee and your cell phone
privilege revoked.

Confiscated electronic devices will be
turned over to the administrator if they are
being used or seen during the school day.

The school is not responsible for phones or
electronic devices brought on to school
property that are lost, stolen or damaged.
