Naviance - Family Connection

The LASA Counseling staff is pleased to introduce Family Connection from Naviance, a Web-based service that students and parents can use to help in making decisions about colleges and careers. Family Connection is linked with Counselor's Office, which we use in our office to track and analyze data about college and career plans, so it provides up-to-date information that's specific to our school.
Naviance will allow students and parents to:

  1. Get involved in the college planning and advising process - Build a resume, complete on-line surveys, and manage timelines and deadlines for making decisions about colleges
  2. Research colleges - Compare GPA, SAT scores, and other statistics to actual historical data from our school for students who have applied and been admitted in the past

Naviance also lets us share information with our school community about up-coming meetings and events, local scholarship opportunities, and other Web resources for college and career information. In addition, the site includes a link that students can use to send us an e-mail message.

The Web address for Family Connection for LASA is: http://connection.naviance.com/lasa

NEW FEATURES ADDED to Naviance for the 2009-2010 academic year:
Do What You Are – this personality assessment tool will help you learn more about your personality and career interests. From your personal Naviance site, click on "my personality type" to start the survey.  If you need to break in between, make sure you select the icon that says "Finish Later".

Career Interest Profiler – through this inventory, you will receive feedback about the potential careers and related majors that match your interests. From your personal Naviance site, click on "explore interests" under the About Careers option to access the inventory.

Learning Style Inventory – through this inventory, you will receive feedback about the kind of environment that will maximize your learning potential.  From your personal Naviance site, click on "my learning style" to access the inventory.

JUNIORS and SENIORS who wish to attend a COLLEGE VISIT offered on the LASA campus will be required to RSVP through their personal Naviance site.  There will no longer be a sign-up sheet in the LASA office.  Click on “visit schedule” to view a list of confirmed colleges.  This list is updated on nearly a daily basis.  Once you RSVP, you can print the confirmation page and use it for your pass to get out of class at the appropriate time. Students are allowed to attend up to 10 visits per academic year.

IMPORTANT NEWS about the College Application Process for SENIORS:
Linking Naviance and CommonApp.org – LASA Counselors will be sending the required Secondary School Reports, Mid-Year Reports, and recommendation letters electronically this year through Naviance to Common Application member colleges.  Several LASA teachers have also elected to submit their recommendations through Naviance this year.  To make sure your forms and recommendations are delivered promptly, you will need to enter your CommonApp.org user name and password on your personal Naviance site.

Transcripts will be requested through Naviance once the parental consent form is signed and returned to Ms. Boothe, LASA Registrar.

More details and specific process information will be distributed in September.

GUESTS to the site may log in with limited feature access under Guest Entrance with the following password: aisd
