Classical Guitar Awards, Honors, and Kudos

National Classical Guitar Ensemble Competition: Our guitar ensemble successfully defended it's title at UT Brownsville this Spring. Again they earned 1st Place in the High School Division at the National Classical Guitar Ensemble Competition. Congratulations to the following students: Andrew Bowen, Will Flores, Alex Goewey, Robbie Henson, Brandon Mays, Michael McCown, John Prather, Claire Puckett, and Jasmine Ramirez. And congratulations to Gene Raymond, McCallum guitar teacher and Travis Marcum, Austin Classical Guitar Society educational outreach instructor who works with our advanced ensemble. View a clip here.
Long Center Opening: The Classical Guitar Advanced ensemble was one of the first programs to play in the Long Center's Grand opening. They played in the Debra and Kevin Rollins Studio Theatre to a full house, which seats from 80 - 240.
UIL Solo & Ensemble: All McCallum Classical Guitar students who competed at UIL Solo & Ensemble were awarded first division (top) scores. Congratulations to Fine Arts Academy classical guitar majors Zach Dallas, Will Flores, Owen Hunter, Brandon Mays, Michael McCown, Fabi Reyna, Alex Beck, Andrew Bowen, Andrew Castanon, Noah Cogdell, Alex Goewey, John Prather, Mark Ramirez, Zach Mallard and Lyliana Moreno and also McCallum senior Michael Martinez.
2006-07
The Young Masters Program, sponsored by the Texas Commission on the Arts, is intended to encourage talented young Texas artists. Recipients receive a scholarship for up to $2,500 a year, to be renewed for up to three years. It is intended for Texas students from 8th to 12th grade; it is not intended for college study. The scholarship enables the recipients to pursue advanced artistic study through summer intensives and special unique training opportunities. Marco Villa, classical guitarist, is a recipient.
