Dance Strand

The McCallum High School Fine Arts Academy Dance Program offers a unique opportunity in the high school setting to experience the world of Dance. All dance classes include the study of Ballet, Jazz, and Modern dance with additional diverse dance curriculum offered to each class. The Dance Major curriculum meets the state Dance Honors requirements forthe National Honor Society for Dance.

Cultural and Historical Awareness, Movement Theory onquiry and application, Creative Curiosity, Technical Acuity and Perfomance Virtuosity are learning outcomes of our program.

Early each fall, students produce a dance benefit show to raise proceeds to supplement district funding for the dance program. The student co-directors for Fall 2009 were senior Fine Arts Academy dance majors, Anna Madison Selby and Sydney Espinosa.

The Dance Department produces two shows each year with multiple performances, one in the fall and another in the spring. Advanced dance students are required to perform in both shows. Dance majors are required to perform in both shows all four years in order to maintain their status as dance majors in the Academy.

Students in Dance I and II, who wish to perform, are required to audition for the show, sign a contract and commit to rehearsals and attend all performances held for each show.
