Mrs. Richards is our principal.
Her full name is Sharon Maloy-Richards and she was born and raised
in a small town near Corpus Christi. Her parents had five children
and she was the youngest. She attended Corpus Christi A & M and then later
TCU in Fort Worth. Both of her degrees are in education. Her bachelor's
degree is in elementary education with an English minor and her master's
degree is in curriculum and instruction.
On a personal note, she has been married for 33 years and she has
two daughters. Her daughter, Angela, completed college and is a bank auditor.
Her daughter, Melissa, will graduate next year with a degree in interior design
and drafting. Both of her daughters got married last year six months
apart from each other. Mrs. Richards feels so blessed to have two great son-in-laws:
Marcus and Jeremy.
Mrs. Richards also feels very honored to be the principal of the best school
in Austin. She enjoys coming to school everyday and loves the students.
She says the teachers are so dedicated to the students that it makes her job
very easy. She appreciates all the support that the parents give, too.
As Mrs. Richards likes to say, "Odom is a great school and a great place to be!"
Ms. Sevier is our assistant principal.
Ms. Sevier was born in Texas. Her
best memories of childhood were playing outside. Her heroes are people
like Maya Angelou, the poet and educator. Maya Angelou's work really
inspires people to become their very best. Ms. Sevier thinks being a
teacher is sort of like being a bumble bee. Everyone knows a bumble
bee should not really be able to fly because of its shape and yet it
does fly, somehow! Good teachers can help people do things they might
have thought were impossible. She says she really likes working at Odom
because it gives her the chance to help good minds become even greater.
She thinks nobody should ever underestimate a child's potential or dream.
Ms Sevier's dream is to one day become a grandmother and a principal.
Ms. Munn is our curriculum specialist. She can answer questions
regarding curriculum, instruction, and after school tutorial programs.
She is bilingual.
Ms. Munn was born in El Paso, Texas just as the war was ending.
World War II not the Civil War. She lived with her grandparents
since her father was still serving in the Navy. She really enjoyed
life with her grandmother because her grandmother was always fascinated with
learning, whether it was watching a mud-dappler wasp make a nest
or helping Ms. Munn tame a wild squirrel. Sitting on her grandmother's
front porch was a wonderful place to be. Her grandmother did not have a formal
education, yet Ms. Munn saw in her a hunger for learning. She decided that
she wanted to learn all she could about the world she lived in and she has
continued her quest to learn even in her advanced years. Ms. Munn decided
to be a teacher because she thinks students are the most fascinating
and challenging people. They have very fresh and interesting ways
of seeing things around them. They often express themselves in very
amusing ways. But, best of all she loves students because they are the
most loving and caring people.
Ms. Messinger is our school counselor.
You might know Ms. Messinger as the lady who wears hats with flair!
Ms. Messinger's best childhood memories are of going to Canada
for summer vacation. She really admires her family. They inspire her.
They taught her to believe in herself. They also inspired her to
enjoy beautiful things. Ms. Messinger loves teaching at Odom. She
was probably born to be a teacher. When she was a little girl, she
would pretend she was a teacher. She liked to round up all the little
kids in the neighborhood to teach them their ABCs. She loves working
at Odom because it gives her an opportunity to help children learn
how to make good choices.
