Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser
2nd grade will be having a pancake breakfast fundraiser event on Saturday, April 26 from 9:00-10:30 at the Longhorn Steakhouse located at 4809 W. Hwy 290 in Sunset Valley. The breakfast consists of pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice or coffee. All proceeds go to Sunset Valley Elementary School. Each ticket is $7.00 and you may purchase these tickets from any 2nd grade teacher. Thank you for supporting our school!
Students Accepted to Magnet Schools
Five Sunset Valley 5th Grade students were accepted into selective magnet schools this year. Elijah Anderson will be going to Fulmore. He also got into Kealing. Grace Alter was accepted at Fullmore as well but has chosen the Small Green Tech Academy. Cydney Placker will be attending the Lamar Fine Arts Academy. Hanan Brower will be going to Fulmore. Oliva Benavidez was also accepted at Fulmore but decided on The Ann Richard's School for Young Women Leaders. Congratulations to them all!
Honor Student Council School of Excellence
Sunset Valley Student Council has received the "Honor Student Council School of Excellence" award for the second year in a row. Thank you Student Council for all your hard work and willingness to be school leaders. Your efforts are much appreciated. See what the student Council has been up to.
Mrs. Mercado selected for Zarrow Award
We are very proud of our 5th grade Teacher, Christina Mercado, for being selected as one of the 2014 winners of the Zarrow Outstanding Teacher Awards. Five teachers were selected by a committee of students in Teachers of Tomorrow and were honored with a reception on April 1, 2014 on the UT campus. Congratulations, Mrs. Mercado!
Pre-K teacher Ms. Crystal Young has been selected Sunset Valley Teacher of the Year. She is in her 12th year at Sunset Valley and has 21 years overall teaching experience. She is a member of the National Science Teachers Association and has presented at several conferences for that group as well as the Science Teachers Association of Texas, the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Association for the Education of Young Children. She has been very active with the school's Campus Advisory Committee in addition to the Social Committe, which she founded. Congratulations Ms. Young!
Ms. Urbina participated in the panel discussion of new teachers at a recent BTEN (Building a Teaching Effectiveness Network) conference in Austin.
