Mission Statement

The mission of AISD's Bilingual Education/English as a Second Language program is to support and prepare our bilingual/bicultural learners for continued education beyond high school and employment in a global economy.

Bilingual Department Beliefs

 

• Belief that our families'/students' cultural and linguistic backgrounds are an asset in teaching and learning.

• We believe in a nurturing environment that promotes discourse that allows for differences of opinion.

• Bilingualism/biculturalism is an asset that leads to academic, economic and personal success.

• We operate from the belief that all ELLs will graduate from high school and college prepared to contribute to society in the 21st century.

• We are 100% responsible for what is showing up in our professional lives and how we respond to it.

• Every individual should be treated with respect.

• Every individual should have access to the educational and professional resources to succeed academically and professionally.

• All stakeholders (parents, students, community, teachers, board members and administrators) are responsible for the success of ELLs.

• Collaboration among all stakeholders is key for student success.

• Parents are seen as resources in the teaching and learning process.

• Accountability is crucial to achieving improvement.
