HIGH SCHOOL
If this is your first visit to the new Language Arts Website, you will notice that the set-up is quite different from the old IPG site. This new site will provide you with a lot more than IPG and Lesson Support documents. In the near future you will find stories about other Language Arts teachers in the district, read about opportunities for professional development, and new district initiatives. Please come back often, and if you have any suggestions for stories, contact the webmaster or your Language Arts contact....
To find IPG and Lesson Support documents, click on the gold colored tab on the upper right corner of this page.
The NCTE (National Council Teachers of English) is sponsoring a "National Day of Writing", October 20, 2009. They are encouraging everyone everywhere to stop and write--something! Writings can include (but are not limited to) text messages, tweets, essays, poems, stories, memos, notes, etc. The Secondary ELA department urges you to promote this literacy effort school-wide on your campus. Encourage all disciplines to stop for 10-30 minutes and allow students to express themselves through writing.
Additionally, Austin ISD is participating in the National Gallery Of Writing, an effort to increase writing across the nation and the world, sponsored by the National Council Teachers of English (NCTE). This is a virtual gallery where all kinds of writing is posted. We would like to invite all of you to submit student, teacher, faculty (etc.) writing to Adrienne Thrasher to include in the gallery. We are not limited to the kinds of writings we want to submit. Adrienne asks you to submit the writing to her because we must ensure that the submissions are original works by the author and are not plagiarized or appear in other publications (although works may be published in local student publications such as the school newspaper, journals or literary magazines). More specific guidelines are posted on the National Gallery of Writing website.
Currently, there are no submissions from AISD but we hope to change this very soon! Please have students submit their writings to Adrienne Thrasher via an attachment from you and they could soon see their names in print nationally in the Austin ISD WRITES Gallery!
