2009 CATCH PE MVP
Lauren Mikulencak (photo, right), Physical Education Specialist at Pillow Elementary, was selected as the 2009 CATCH Physical Education MVP.
Lauren wears many hats at her school and within the district. She is the CATCH Co-Champion at her school along with Huddie Murray, the parent support specialist. Whenever an event occurs at Pillow, Lauren has had her hand in it. Her special area team epitomizes the coordinated school effort expected through the CATCH program. Together, the music teacher, Carol Davis, and art teacher, Suzy Swingle, collaborate to create music programs and decorative hall displays that promote physical activity and overall healthy habits.
Lauren plans her Field Days each year with a CATCH/ Health emphasis. She spends hours creating games and equipment for students use. Her Physical Education classes are always packed full of movement and learning. Her students are well aware of the skills and knowledge necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout their lives.
Lauren also holds several key positions within Austin ISD. She is the Co-President of the Austin Association for Physical Education and Recreation (AAPER), she is an IPG curriculum writer and the website master for the AISD Physical Education Health Education website.
Congratulations to Lauren for a well deserved award.
