Accountability
- Senate Bill 892: Relating to the inclusion in the elementary campuses CIP setting goals, objectives for implementing Coordinated School Health (CATCH), use of Fitnessgram data, academic performance data, attendance, economic status, and student participation in the 135 minutes of weekly physical education.
Curriculum and Time Requirements
- House Bill 3076: Relating to a parenting and paternity awareness program used in health curriculum for public schools in grades 6-12.
- Senate Bill 891: Relating to physical education curriculum and contents that must be included in the TEKS.
- Senate Bill 1344: Relating to the integration of an alcohol awareness component into the health education curriculum.
- EHAA (Legal): Basic Instructional Programs for all levels, which include required teaching of Coordinated School Health (CATCH K-8), Classification for Physical Education, School Health Advisory Council, Human Sexuality Instruction and Steroid Notice and Education.
- EHAA (Local): Guidelines for teaching about Human Sexuality.
- EHAB (Legal): Required teaching of Health Education and Physical Education TEKS, K-12. Requires the 135 minutes of weekly physical activity time (WOW) in grades K-5.
- EHAC (Legal): Requires the teaching of Health Education, Physical Education, and Coordinated School Health Program (CATCH) in grades 6-8. Requires the 225 minutes or 4 semesters overall of physical activity in grades 6-8. Requires the teaching of the Parenting Awareness Program in grades 9-12.
- EHAC (Local): Provides guidance to campuses regarding the implementation of the 225 minutes or 4 semesters overall of physical activity in grades 6-8.
- EIF (Legal): Provides guidance to campuses regarding Physical Education substitution in order to meet the graduation requirements.
Grading
- EIA (Regulation): Provides guidance to campuses regarding grading procedure. Also include in the Pass/Fail policy for Off-Campus Physical Education substitutions.
Health and Fitness Assessments
- FFAA (Legal): Requires the necessary health screenings: physical fitness vision, hearing, scoliosis, and acanthosis niagricans (related to Type II Diabetes).
- FFAA (Local): Requires that all students in grades 3-12 participate in the Fitnessgram assessment annually.
- FFAA (Regulation): Provides campuses with guidelines on assessing students in grades 3-12 using Fitnessgram.
- FFAB (Legal): Provides campuses with guidelines on immunization requirements.
Nutrition
- Senate Bill 282: Related to grant programs for nutrition education.
- CO (Legal): All Districts that participate in the federal Child Nutrition Programs must comply with the nutrition policies outlined by the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy (www.squaremeals.org).
- CO (Regulation): Related to Food Services. Specifically, foods of minimal nutritional value (FMNV) will not be offered or accessible to students, K-12, during the school day.
- FFA (Local): Nutrition Guidelines, Use of Food for Instructional Purposes, Staff Wellness, Physical Activity K-12, Nutrition Education, and Monitoring/Compliance
- FFA (Exhibit): Guidelines for Use of Food for birthday parties and Instructional Use, FMNV, and Exemptions to the Texas State Nutrition Policy
School Health Advisor Council
- BDF (Legal): The establishment of the Districts School Health Advisory Council (SHAC). The SHAC provides recommendations to the Board of Trustees in areas related to the 8 Components of a Coordinated School Health Program.
