The complicated and multifaceted process of acculturation is widely recognized as being potentially detrimental to the mental health of immigrants, as familial and cultural isolation and exposure to discrimination can induce psychological distress.

In a first-of-its-kind study done on "Factors affecting acculturation level for Latin American immigrants", the findings of the study when discussed with students in safe-established teacher classrooms have provided the impetus for eager student participation and thirst for more research.
