Guide To Administering CustomTyping.com

1
Admin Login Each campus has one administrative login that allows the user to setup groups, add and assign students to groups, and generate reports. Check with your campus ITRC or IT Facilitator for login and password information.
2
Student Logins AISD has populated this online resource with K-8 student names by campus as of 9/5/07. New students following that date will need to be added by the CT Admin on each campus. Each student has been assigned a unique login and password that allows the user to access lessons from networked computer a school and computer at home with internet service. Each campus CT Admin can generate class lists including student names and their login information.

Students should log in to Custom Typing using the following link:

3
Adding Groups We recommend the CT Admin add a new "Group" for each class planning to use Custom Typing. The (All Groups) selection contains all students on your campus.
4
Assigning students to groups
Current students can be assigned to groups by first selecting (All Groups)
Scroll down the list of students "Checking" those names to be added to a class's Group.
Click the "Change Settings" button.

For younger students we suggest starting with "10" WPM and "Computer Guided" Web Site Mode.

Feel free to adjust settings to best meet the needs of your own students. Remember to Save Changes. This process must be repeated for each group.

Change the "Group" and other settings to match this group of selected students.

The CT Admin can change any student's settings. This video shows how to change user name and password.

"Why can't I hear the audio in these tutorials?"
These tutorials have a voice track for the online guide that requires speakers to benefit from the instruction. If you have speakers, make sure they are not muted. "Why do I get a blank screen when I open a tutorial?"
The Flash plug-in is needed to view these tutorials. See the Flash section above for installation instructions for this player.

"How do I introduce this to my campus staff?"
We recommend you schedule a 15 minute introduction at one of your next staff meetings.

1. Distribute the the Staff Introduction handout.

2. Show the Quickstart movie clip .

3. Provide each teacher with his/her class list with user names.

4. Download, modify, print, and distribute the parent introduction letter to your parents as appropriate.
