How To Activate AppleTalk in OSX |
Appletalk needs to be active to connect to Appletalk Printers and some Campus Servers in the Teacher and Student Modes.
Troubleshooting: If you cannot see any AppleTalk Printers and/or cannot connect to your Server, first verify that you are connected to the network. A quick network connection verification can be accomplished by launching Internet Explorer and viewing web pages. If you get the message that the server cannot be found, then you may not be connected to the network. If you can view web pages but still not see your AppleTalk printers or cannot browse to your Campus Server then AppleTalk may not be activated. If you have verified that you have web access, then proceed to activate AppleTalk. |
Step 1
Locate Ethernet Network Settings 1. Click on Apple> System Preferences. 2. Click on the Network icon at the top of the System Preferences screen. 3. Click on the drop-down menu next to the word Show. 4. Choose the Built-in Ethernet option. Note: Student Mode does not allow the user to access Network Settings in System Preferences. Log in as Teacher to make these changes. |
Step 2
Make AppleTalk Active 5. Click on the AppleTalk menu option. Click the square next to Make AppleTalk Active. 6. In the bottom-right corner, choose Apply Now. |
Final Note
You may receive a message that AppleTalk can be active on one network port at a time. If you have a wireless card in your Mac (iBook, etc.), your Airport Card also can connect wirelessly to the network. AppleTalk can only be active for Builtin Ethernet or Airport at one time. You can use these instructions to switch between the two as needed. Click OK and close the System Preferences window. |
