Instructions For Making a Bootable FW Drive for Imaging with Tiger (10.4.2)

For this process you will need the following equipment and supplies:

1. One Mac computer running at least OS 10.4.2 containing the Latest version of the NetRestore application ).
2. One Mac formatted FireWire Drive w/cable. (supplied)

Preparation

If you do not have NetRestore, download it onto your mac from the bombich.com site.

Boot the Mac and make sure it has wired ethernet access.

Plug in the FW drive using the accompanying cable.

Hold down the control key while clicking on this link and then choose, "Download Link to Disk" to download the Boot_HD_4.2.dmg file from the installs server to your desktop.

Use NetRestore to build Bootable FireWire Drive

a. Launch NetRestore.

b. Drag the Boot_HD_4.2.dmg file to the Source Window until the green plus sign appears. This will create the path to the image.

b. You window will look very similar to the one to the right. Your target drive name will be whatever name your FW drive has been given.

c. Select your FW drive as Target:

d. Select the two checked Options: Boxes.

e. Click on the closed padlock and type in the Teacher's administrative password. Hint: Make sure you are logged in as teacher on the computer you are using to prepare your FW Drive.

f. The Restore button should now be activated. Click the Restore button.

g. You should see an animated, horizontal "barber pole" as NetRestore prepares to restore. This should be quickly replaced by a progress bar tracking to progress of your restore. Time needed for the restore process will depend on network traffic. It could take a few as 10 minutes to as many as 45 minutes.

When restoring is complete, eject the FW drive which is now called OSX Boot HD and it is ready for use.
