How To Setup Lotus Notes Version 6.5 in OSX

Using Lotus Notes email in OSX is very similar to the old version with some improvements. This process can be followed to set up a new Lotus Notes email account in OSX.
Preparation

You will need your Notes ID file to begin this process. If you have it stored on a floppy, the server, or other location, have it available for this setup process.

If you do not have your Notes ID contact your campus tech support person or the helpdesk at 414-8324.

You will also need to know the name of your Domino server for this setup process. The easiest way to find this is to launch iNotes from Internet Explorer.

When you have correctly logged in to iNotes, you will be redirected to the correct Domino server. This server's name will appear in the Address window. Look for the first eight characters behind the http://.

In this case the correct Domino server is named:

n941m004

Staff on your campus may use different Domino servers to host their Lotus Notes eMail.

Launch Lotus Notes

Log in as Teacher. Select Lotus Notes from the Teacher's Dock.

Select New Setup

......

The Setup Process Begins

Select Next.

User Information

Enter your first and last name.

Enter your Domino server's name.

The Domino server's name will be similar to:

n941m001.

Your server may have one or two different numbers at the end.

Then select Next.

Locating your Lotus Notes ID file

Now you need your Notes ID file. Click the Browse button to locate your Notes ID.

If you do not have access to your Notes ID, contact your campus tech support person or call the Help Desk at 414-8324. They will be happy to help you.

Browsing for Your Notes ID File

Here is a sample of what one person's Browsing looked like.

Select Open.

Select Next.
Select Yes.
Enter your Lotus Notes Password.

If you are using an ID obtained from the Helpdesk, your password might simply be:

password

Select button 1, 2, or just ask for the defaults, your choice.

From this point your Lotus Notes will work similarly to the older version.

Troubleshooting
Deleting Notes Preferences: Sometimes in the installation and setup procedures something will happen that causes the Setup Process to fail and the user cannot use Lotus Notes.

Deleting the Notes Preferences allows you to begin a new Setup for Lotus Notes. These preferences can be found at:

Double-click Hard Drive> Users> Teacher> Library> Preference> Notes Preferences

Quit Notes, Trash this preference file, and launch Lotus Notes again. You should be brought to the New Setup window to begin the setup process again.

User can't open his mail database: This usually happens when the user does note know which Domino server he uses and enters the name of a server that does not store his personal Mail files.

To correct this, first determine the correct Domino server for the user using the recommended approach in the Preparation section found earlier in these instructions. Then launch Notes.
Go to Office> Edit Current... in the lower right hand corner of the Notes window.

Next, click on the Servers tab, and change the Home/mail server: name to match the correct Domino server for the user.

Save and Close.

Now clicking on the user's Mail button should pull up the correct mail files.

Remember, if you have any trouble setting up Lotus Notes, call the Help Desk at 414-8324. They will be happy to assist you.
