About SCORES
What Is SCORES?
SCORES is an instructional resource and service supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and/or other disabilities who demonstrate impairment in social, communicative, and behavioral functioning.
SCORES is NOT a self-contained classroom for students with autism or other disabilities; it is a service provided in the least restrictive environment possible for the student. A student does not need to be located at a school with campus-based SCORES support to receive the service. A student with autism or other disabilities may access all programs available on the campus (i.e., general education, content mastery, resource, life skills or social behavioral skills) as determined by student's ARD committee. Campus-based SCORES staff are located at campuses with a high number of students with autism or other disabilities.
The SCORES campus-based teacher may serve as an autism consultant to campus staff and support students with autism/other disabilities in all campus programs. The SCORES campus-based teacher may serve as the folder teacher for students with autism/other disabilities who need minimal support in the general education setting. Itinerant SCORES staff provide training and support to campuses with fewer students with autism/other disabilities.
Campuses without additional campus-based SCORES staff may request SCORES training to build capacity and knowledge with existing staff. Location of the campus-based SCORES staff is reviewed on an annual basis and changes are made as needed to reflect population shifts and better serve students.
