A message from Dave Sanders - Director of Instructional Technology
Greetings,
We hope you have received and are enjoying your new laptop! This tool will help you be more productive, improve communication, increase collaboration and provide better access to the resources you need to do your job.
Don't worry if you feel like you don't know everything about it....neither do I!
Your first goal should be to get to a "comfort zone" where you are able to do the things you need to do for now. Over time you will learn more about utilizing the capabilities of your laptop.
If you have questions...please do not send emails directly to me, instead contact your ITRC, IT Facilitator or use the online resources listed here:
- HEAT tickets (just type "help" in your browser - only works in AISD, NOT at home) and calls to the AISD Help Desk (414-TECH) are still needed for issues that you can't resolve.
- This site: AISD Laptop 101 - Getting Started: We have assembled some online resources to get you started with your laptop. To return to this site: From AISD just launch your browser (FireFox, IE, Safari) and just type "techinfo". At home it will be http://www.austinschools.org/techinfo
Click the Teacher Laptop link, then look for Tutorials (Mac or PC). There you will find a overview presentation, and links to other helpful tutorials and resources.
We have also asked your ITRC to schedule brief Laptop 101 sessions to cover the basics. There are some new features like Data Encryption that you need to be aware of. - AISD Forum - Online Discussion Board
We also have an AISD Discussion Board we call the AISD Forum, where you can ask questions and network with other teachers about your laptop.
It is in the Instructional Technology Category - 2008 Technology BondThe Forum requires a log in.
User= your AISD short name or EID#. (The same one you use to login to the AISD network.)
PW= default PW is your EID# (you can change it when you login) - Need to talk to a person?
Finally, we have asked the ITRC (Instructional Technology Resource Contact) to provide a basic Laptop101 support, but keep in mind, in many cases they are a classroom teacher, and will ask you to call the Help Desk for problems that may come up. There is also an IT Facilitator assigned to your campus. Your ITRC can get you in touch with them.
Thanks,
Looking forward to a new era of technology integration in Austin ISD.
